Hair Technical File - Classic Shapes

Equipment:

  • Pin tail comb
  • Paddle brush
  • Sea salt spray
  • Water spray
  • Sectioning clips
  • Hair bungees
  • Grips
  • Hair spray
Method:
  1. Brush through the hair with the paddle brush and spray in the sea salt spray
  2. Spray the water over the head and get your model to lean her head back, this is to get all the little stray hairs
  3. Section a V in the top of the models head, and pin out of the way with the sectioning clips
  4. Work on the hair on the bottom, use the pin tail comb to comb to bottom hair into a pony tail in the middle of the head, not to high up.
  5. Use a hair bungee to secure this in p
  6. lace
  7. With the hair on top, gently back comb it to give it a slight bit of height and volume
  8. Use the pintail comb again to smooth over the backcomb, and bring the rest of the hair back into the ponytail and place another hair bungee over this
  9. Take a small section of the ponytail from the underneath and wrap round the ponytail to hair the hair bungee, secure with a grip

French Twist
  1. Section off the hair again the same as before, with the V section on top and add some extra backcombing to it to give it a lift, comb over to make it look neat. Grip this into place
  2. Because I'm right handed, I started with the right side of the hair. Spray some water on the side of the hair and smooth over with the pintail comb towards the left side of the head
  3. Use a few grips to pin this in place in the middle of the head - I placed mine a little too far to the left so it's come out with a slight left lean.
  4. The spray a little hairspray on the left side of the hair and smooth over towards the right
  5. Bring all the hair in to the centre of the head and wrap it all together, start gripping in place as you go to make it easier for yourself
  6. Spray some hairspray on the comb and comb over the hair gently to give a nice smooth finish
